Online teachers can and should provide their students with supplementary materials.

I like to give my students ideas of things that they can do to enhance their learning.  If I see, for example, a student who is struggling with math facts such as the multiplication tables I will tell him or her to take a piece of paper and copy those facts down, then grab a friend or family member and make a game of asking each other the facts.  I try to show them how learning can be fun.  In addition, I also suggest getting some index cards or cutting up paper if that is not something they can get or have on hand.  Then I tell them to write the math facts on there.  Each time they do this it will help them to further make the connection and remember the facts.

Other things I do to provide my students with supplementary materials that they can use for their learning when they are not in class is to tell them about effective learning web sites that might help them with their particular academic issue they are working on.  This shows students that you care and that you do sincerely want to help them.  Along with that, the student will soon come to the realization that there are a lot of ways out there to enhance and assist them with their learning.

Letting students know you care and want to help them with their learning is important.

Help your students to see that you want to help them and that you have their welfare and best interests in mind.

Let your students know that you read books. Tell them about what you are reading and also ask them to share their reading experiences.

Be a good role model for your students by portraying how you are a lifetime reader, writer and learner.  Students will notice this and it shows them more than you can realize.  Sharing books and ideas will help your students to take notice of the importance of education.

Take time to talk about books and learning.
