Teach the Purpose for Learning

Teach your students the purpose for learning.  Tell them the reason for learning each and every lesson.  They will then go into the lesson with a goal, which will help them to pay better attention to the lesson and also will help them understand how they can relate their learning to their lives.

Write the purpose for learning on the board or in the online classroom so students can remember and refer to it throughout the lesson.

Help students to understand how you can use the lesson material in life, and why it is important.  Doing so will help students to see the importance of the lesson and its concepts.

Asking your students what they feel a purpose is for a lesson or how it can be related to their life or real world situations will help them remember better that there is a reason why they need to know things and also will let them see that it is something useful they are learning and is something that can have purpose beyond the classroom walls.

Make sure your lesson and all instruction is purposeful. Teach nothing without a reason and a purpose behind it.
