Teacher Comments on Online Learning
Teacher Comments About Teaching Online
I asked people if they taught online, and if so, how they liked it and what their views were regarding online teaching and learning.
I do this all the time. I was a math & science tutor for about 1 year. I taught in people's homes. It was fun and rewarding, but not profitable. I think that teaching online could work as long as there were a means of getting feedback from the students as you progress step-by-step through a subject. The other thing that would be necessary is a method for drawing illustrations. All of this could be accomplished online by teaching in front of a video camera, but face-to-face is much better. You can't see a face light up when the person finally "gets it".
It might be the best thing for reaching students in remote areas, as long as they had access to computers and the internet.
I taught online once and didn't like it very much. I taught Elements of Speech online and it was really difficult to do.
Though I haven't but all teaching is fun. It is great to convey an idea and see someone grows intellectually. Plus earning. Only if you love your subject.
Online teaching is a rapidly growing industry ... and the beauty of it is that it doesn't matter where you live -in the world.
Online learning is really great and easy to do IF you have self motivation and perseverance. I loved it, but I didn't have the motivation. So unless you do, I wouldn't do it! Good luck though!
I just finished my 1st online class-Intro to Psych 101. It was really easy to navigate through the class and plus not having to sit in a classroom to do it was nice. Plus an advantage is that if you have kids, it's nice not having to worry what you are going to do with them when you have to go to class. It was less stressful and fun!
My opinion about online learning, is that it may not be as resourceful as leaning in an actual classroom. Like, online you don't physically have someone there to show you, or help you out with something. And when leaning online, you reallly have to be motivated and committed.
I don't like to write, I don't like to have discussions with people that I can't see. So for me it was not a good experience. But, hey, everyone is different. It may be a good experience for you. I say try it out for yourself. You'll never know until you try it.
In my opinion, there are two sides about online learning, the positive and the negative sides.
On the positive side, it's just like the first two answers before me...
But on the negative side, you have to be honest with your professor in your online class., if you have to have an exam in your online class,. you have to be honest not to look in your books or notes just to answer the exam perfectly, because the exam will be useless because the things that should be in your mind are not virtually registered in your mind and your exam will be just like an assignment.
Well, i hope I helped you out and offended nothing or no one.
To be honest, I really wish more of my major (core) classes were offered online, my guess is that they wouldn't get canceled so much if they were; since you can have people from half way across the world take the class as well (meaning that hopefully if more people from other areas are able to take the course, they will).
I can honestly say that I myself DO NOT learn more OR less from an online course. Personally, I don't need a college to teach me anything (aside things that would require massive amounts of money, or legal fees; such as chem/anatomy), I have the motivation and determination to learn almost anything I want, and I keep at it until I get it.
So, I guess my opinion of online courses is that aside from the fact they can save gas, possibly increase enrollment (no, I have not pulled stats), allow students to take classes they couldn't normally enroll in, and allow me to complete almost half my degrees faster, I guess I don't consider them any different from another other class; all things aside, usually it's students choice on whether or not you learn something from a class, whether it be the course material or something else.
